Sawyer Kensington Trust
Meeting Minutes 8/19/09 8:12pm

In attendance: Gary Bonitatibus, Donna Carter, Bruce Cilley, Michael DelSesto, Michael Motherway

  • Gary Bonitatibus was welcomed as a new member of the trust
  • Gary Bonitatibus will now be responsible for the meeting minutes
  • Minutes were approved from the last meeting
  • Members reviewed and approved thank you letters for the advertising banners with the exception of amending the notice to follow up with the advertisers in Mid- February instead of in the spring
  • The bike rack was installed at the park entrance
  • Bills were reviewed and approved
  • Michael Motherway and Unitil are still researching electrical usage and how to eliminate the high cost of the field lighting
  • EYSA has rented the multi-purpose and outfields of fields A & B for their soccer season
  • The drawing for the Red Sox Fundraiser will be the weekend of August 29th. As of this date, we’ve collected $1280.00 and we’re hoping to increase that to at least $1500.
  • The tree and shrub fertilization will be applied on September 12th. We already have ten volunteers. We are looking for a lead person and more volunteers to organize and dig around the root bulbs. The trust is deciding if it should be delivered or if we should use a dump truck.
  • The landscaper will post a sign making the public aware as mowing is taking place, which is currently done on Wednesdays.
  • On Tuesday, August 25th, Mike Motherway along with volunteers will be applying compost on the fields. Javier is coming with two machines and more volunteers are needed to help. (Mowing may take place on Thursday this week)
  • A core plug aeration will be done for the second time. Bell & Flynn will be responsible for the costs. This is to help the fields drain better.
  • Mike Motherway  is working on an “Adopt- a –Field” program to help reduce the turf costs. Several companies have come to the trust and have expressed interest in adopting a field and maintaining it for the following year. This would reduce the costs of maintaining each field in excess of 70%. There is another proposal submitted to the trust which would apply different applications to the field, which consists of a mixture of organic and chemicals specific to each field, whereby cutting the maintenance cost by 50%.
  • On September 19th, there is a charity “fun run” as well as a baseball tournament. Please support this local charity. The town hall and KES parking will be utilized on this day.

Meeting adjourned: 10:20pm.
