Meeting Minutes December 2, 2008

In attendance:  Mike Motherway, Mile Delsesto, Bruce Ciley, Donna Carter, Kristy Blundell.

1.)  Presentation by Fred Newcombe of PJC Ecological Land Care.  Fred provided a proposal for his recommended organic turf management plan.  PJC develops, manufactures and distributes all natural products for organic turf care.

If hired, in addition to supplying the product, PJC would develop a calendar of recommendations for fertilizing, humates, mowing, aeration, and over seeding.

PJC does not provide turf maintenance.  a turf care company would be hired to adhere to organic practices to maintain all turf at the park.  Bruce suggested the need for a longer term maintenance contract due to the organic turf program reaching its optimal results in 3-5 years.  Mike M. noted it would be necessary to obtain multiple bids for competitive pricing for the maintenance contract.

Currently, resident Felicia Motherway, is pursuing several state grants that would subsidize the cost of organic turf care at the park.

Synthetic turf management by Biospray is as well, still being considered as an option for turf management at the park.

References for PJC and Organic Lawn Spice will be obtained by Kristy.  Mike D. will follow up with Chester from Lawn Spice requesting a specific proposal and the cost of such.

In discussing support of turf care going forward, four out of the five park trustees stated they are in support of pursuing the organic approach.  Stating lower turf care cost in the future and safer practices that will lessen the impact on the environment and benefit all of those who use the park, among reasons for supporting organic turf care.

2.)  Mike D. obtained the projected cost ($23,000-$30,000) for the necessary equipment to complete the skate board park.  The formalized cost will be obtained and submitted to the recreation committee and the selectmen.

3.)  Dace Macek, at the 11/19/08 park trust meeting, requested the use of the softball fields for a men's multi town softball league and a town only coed softball league.  It was determined that he must go before the recreation committee for this request.

4.)  Per Donna, the recreation committee members are requesting master keys to all park facilities.  It was decided this is a request that should go to the selectmen.

As well,  Donna stated the expense of cleaning the restrooms should fall on the recreation committee not the park trust.

Donna is requesting a meeting to include the selectmen, the park trustees and the recreation committee to clarify which duties belong to which entity.

5.)  After the 1st of the year Kristy will attend monthly recreation committee meetings to better facilitate communication between the park trust and the rec. committee.
