August 28, 2008

In attendance: Mary Jane Solomon, Donna Carter, Bruce Cilley, Michael DelSesto, Mike Motherway

East Kingston Baseball Field Fundraiser. September 20th & 21st.
Requested a waiver of fee. Will need to discuss. Concern raised at waiving fee considering recent KYAA fundraiser fee wasn’t waived.
They will purchase meals through tickets. Details for the meal deal to be worked out.
Looking to have 8 teams.

Kristy Blundell, resident of Rose Petal Lane explained that she recently was in the park, entered through the trail entrance, and discovered that herbicides were being applied. She expressed health related concerns and asked what our goal and plan is for treating the grass on the park. She recommended we look at Environmental Working Group.
Her specific request is that the small children’s play area, at a minimum, be chemical free from this point forward.  Concern was raised about the investment put into the park and wanting to make sure the landscape is sustains and grows well.

How the complaint was addressed with the herbicide applicator was discussed.  The request is that how complaints are processed is to go through the trust rather than call them directly.

Harold Bragg came to discuss fundraising efforts. Michel thanked Harold for the additional work he has done at the park. Going above and beyond in caring for Sawyer Park is noticed. Harold spoke to the differences in fundraising efforts. Events for operational costs vs. raising funds for an endowment. It is understood that fundraising is important and is a long term project. A group of 3-5 people for a fundraising subcommittee will be established initially. In the beginning discussions will be at Trustee meetings to get the ball rolling. Harold will come back first week of October with interested people and an initial framework for a plan.

Agree to final fertilizing application for the fall with the exception of immediate playground area, the inner circle and near the pavilion. We will look to consult with another organic/low impact lawn specialist. No more herbicide is planned for this year.

Trustees signed an acceptance letter for an offer from the Kensington Investment Company to handle accounts payable, cash accounting, financial reporting, and tax planning and charitable filings.

Estimate for constructing and equipping a skateboard park near the trail entrance are close to $50,000.  Voted to proceed with construction of the skateboard park. All approved.

Will discuss criteria for waiving of fees at next meeting.
